NOTE:  THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE NOT SUPPLIED WITH THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM.  THIS KIT DOES NOT CONTAIN MUFFLERS AND CLAMPS.  IT HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR USE WITH 2-1/4” SINGLE OFFSET MUFFLERS.  GLASS PACKS MAY BE USED WITH SLIGHT MODIFICATIONS.

DANGER WARNING:  SHOULD THE PURCHASER DECIDE TO INSTALL THIS EXHAUST PRODUCT AT HOME, BE WARNED THAT PLEASURE CAR OR LIGHT DUTY TRUCK/VAN “BUMPER” JACKS ARE INTENDED FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY.  THE USE OF FRAME CONTACT JACK STANDS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FLOOR JACK AS MAIN SUPPORT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO MINIMIZE ACCIDENTAL DROPPING OF A VEHICLE WHILE THE INSTALLATION PROCEEDS.

HANGER CONSISTS OF AN ‘L’ STRAP CONNECTED TO THE FRAME WITH A 5/16” BOLT, WASHER, SNAPPER GROMMET, AND NUT.

    CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE SECTION 27156 PROHIBITS THE ADVERTISING, OFFERING FOR SALE, OR INSTALLATION OF ANY DEVICE WHICH MODIFIES A VEHICLE’S EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM.  THIS PRODUCT IS  THEREFORE NOT LEGAL FOR SALE OR USE IN CALIFORNIA ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.


INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

NOTE:  DO NOT TIGHTEN ANY CLAMPS OR NUTS UNTIL THE LAST STEP!!
NOTE:  ALTERATION TO THE MANIFOLD PIPES MAY BE REQUIRED ON SOME EARLY MODEL 318 ENGINES.

1)  REMOVE THE OLD EXHAUST SYSTEM.  SAVE THE OLD EXHAUST FLANGES AND THE MANIFOLD STUDS AND NUTS FROM THE ORIGINAL FRONT PIPES.  

2)  INSTALL THE LEFT (63” LONG 2” PIPE WITH 40 DEG. FLARE) AND RIGHT (57” LONG 2” PIPE WITH 40 DEG. FLARE) MANIFOLD PIPES USING THE ORIGINAL FLANGES.  TIGHTEN ONLY ENOUGH TO HOLD IN PLACE.  NOTE:  FOR VEHICLES REQUIRING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS (1974-1986) TO MEET EPA GUIDELINES, CONVERTER PART # 73-7774 OR EQUIVALENT SHOULD BE INSTALLED ON THE END OF THESE EXTENSION PIPES.  SEE DRAWING.  CONVERTERS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS KIT.  CUT 10” FROM PIPES E201 & E200 TO INSTALL THE CONVERTERS.  SEE DRAWING.

3)  INSTALL THE LEFT AND RIGHT EXTENSION PIPES TO THE MANIFOLD PIPES USING 2” CLAMPS.  

4)  INSTALL THE MUFFLERS ONTO THE FRONT EXTENSION PIPES USING 2-1/4” CLAMPS. NOTE:  THE EXHAUST SHOULD FLOW OVER THE LOUVERS, AND NOT DIRECTLY INTO THE LOUVERS FOR PROPER SOUND CONTROL.  ROTATE THE FRONT PIPES AND MUFFLERS TO CLEAR THE DRIVE SHAFT AND FRAME.  YOU WILL FIND A CROSS MEMBER OR BODY MOUNT THAT A HOLE CAN BE DRILLED INTO TO ACCEPT AN LB4 HANGER.  ATTACH THE LB4 HANGERS TO THE CROSS MEMBER OR BODY MOUNT USING EITHER THE LAG SCREWS OR 5/16” BOLTS AND NUTS, ALONG WITH THE SNAPPER GROMMET.  USE A 2-1/4” CLAMP TO CLAMP THE HANGER TO THE MUFFLERS.  

5)  INSTALL THE REAR TAIL PIPES TO THE GLASS PACKS USING 2-1/4” CLAMPS.  TRIM TAIL PIPES TO YOUR DESIRED LENGTH.  

6)  AS THE TAIL PIPE GOES UNDER THE FR4AME ON ITS WAY OUT TO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, FIND A HOLE IN THE AREA, OR DRILL A NEW HOLE AND MOUNT THE LB4 HANGER, GROMMET, AND BOLT OR LAG SCREW TO THE VEHICLE.  CLAMP THE HANGERS TO THE TWO TAIL PIPES USING 2-1/4” CLAMPS.  

7)  MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE PARTS OF THE SYSTEM ARE CLEAR OF FRAME MEMBERS, ALL HOSES, SUSPENSION, AND BRAKE AND FUEL LINES.  STARTING AT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, TIGHTEN ALL CONNECTIONS AND NUTS.  MAKE SURE ALL PARTS ARE CLEAR AND WILL NOT LEAK OR RATTLE.  AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF DRIVING RETIGHTEN ALL BOLTS.
